Thanks to this playlist by Cosey Fanni Tutti, I am now somewhat obsessed with the French group Colder and its enigmatic mastermind Marc Nguyen Tan. That there's little information available about either makes it all the more intriguing. As for the music, it's cold and dark electronica, and while not entirely original it's consistently well done. If the first album, Again (2003) was a study in Joy Division, its 2005 follow-up, Heat, broadens its horizons with stronger arrangements and vocals. Tan may wear his musical influences on his sleeve, but he understands why they're so appealing, and uses that understanding wisely. The entire album can be heard here.

[Thanks to Black Nyx for turning me on!]
