the hourglass sanatorium

The beautiful madness of The Hourglass Sanatorium (1973) is not for everyone, but it's exactly the sort of thing that I love. Plot and character development are all but forgotten as the viewer is thrust into a bizarre inner realm which pretty much defies description. A phantasmagoria of the psyche, with beautifully designed sets populated by what appears to be an experimental acting troupe.  Directed by Wojciech Jerzy Has, it's a must for fans of Jodorowsky, Fellini, and Terry Gilliam.
